About Us

The Charlotte Area Branch of AAUW cordially welcomes you to visit its Branch.  AAUW celebrated its 140th anniversary.  When AAUW began in 1881, few women had the opportunity to pursue a college degree — prompting founder Marion Talbot to support a fund for women’s education. Today, women outnumber men in earning degrees at nearly every level. Yet our work is far from done.

Each year, the Charlotte Area Branch undertakes community and state projects. We also engage in local and state legislative advocacy in support of legislation for expanded voting rights, paid family and medical leave, equal pay, maternal health, STEM education, and elimination of systemic racial inequities.

AAUW’s Charlotte Area Branch offers its members opportunities for continued learning, growth, and development of leadership skills. Local community action projects demonstrate AAUW’s commitment to positive societal change. We invite you to participate in all Branch activities as well as in-person and virtual programs, activities, and conferences on the state and national levels.

In the spring of 2024 the branch received state grants to send two UNCC students to the annual National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) in Maryland.
