Who Is Eligible for AAUW Membership?

AAUW’s story begins in 1881 when a small group of female college graduates banded together to open the doors for women’s career advancement and to encourage more women to pursue higher education.

AAUW’s Charlotte Branch has a history of trailblazing since its founding in 1913. We have broken down barriers and initiated programs that continue to grow and impact our community while promoting societal change for the AAUW mission of equity and life-long education for women and girls.

AAUW membership is open to anyone with an associate (or equivalent, e.g., RN) degree or higher from an accredited educational institution. Your membership makes our powerful voice even louder on critical issues affecting women and girls.

Make a Difference

By becoming a member, you’re not only joining a community committed to our cause. You’re also directly funding our work to:

• Train millions of women to negotiate for higher salaries and benefits.
• Support state and local fair-pay legislation to ban the use of salary history in hiring, a practice that puts women at a financial disadvantage.
• Develop more women leaders through workshops and conferences.
• AAUW offers lots of opportunities to get involved with a local community of activists. By joining at the branch level, you can serve in leadership roles, sponsor community action projects, and lobby on priority issues like pay equity and Title IX reform.

From scholarships to salary negotiation, AAUW offers many benefits and opportunities for everyone at your college or university. Your institution can join AAUW and share membership benefits with the entire student body and faculty. Check with your school to see if they are already a Member College/University or if they would like to become one at a special low rate.

Students enrolled in a member college or university may join AAUW as an e-student affiliate. This is a free membership for an undergraduate, with one free year after graduation.

Undergraduates or degree-seeking graduates enrolled in full-time or part-time programs can join AAUW and enjoy a range of benefits to help them succeed on campus and after graduation. Students are encouraged to become members of AAUW while in school even if their school is not a Member College/University.
